Adventure: Lancaster Canal

For Adrian’s birthday this year, his fabulous girlfriend, Sophie, and I clubbed together and bought him an adventure. Keeping it secret for weeks before-hand we were both bursting at the seams to tell him about it, especially me as I would be going on it with him!

The surprise was four days living on a canal boat, travelling from Bilsborrow in Lancaster to where the canal becomes impassable at Tewitfield, following the construction of the M6 motorway.

Fairly unique in its construction this is a topographical canal, so rather than cutting through hillsides and rising up and down with the land, it navigates its way gently round the folds of the countryside.

With no Locks but 100 bridges and crossing the great Lune Aqueduct, it travels North 44 miles passing through the heart of Lancaster and along the rolling hills past Morecambe Bay.

This is our adventure on it.
